FocusStepper help

Frequently asked questions.

The short version of what FocusStepper does, which cameras it is meant for, and how the app and subscriptions work.

What is FocusStepper?

FocusStepper is an iPhone app for running focus-bracketing sequences on compatible cameras over Bluetooth. It helps you connect the camera, calibrate focus travel, set your step size and timing, and repeat the same bracket workflow more reliably.

What cameras are compatible?

FocusStepper is built for select Sony cameras that support the Bluetooth remote-control workflow the app relies on. Direct in-hand validation is currently centered on the Sony A7C with a Tamron 28-200 lens. The broader model list below reflects the current target compatibility list and may vary by camera model, firmware version, region, and lens behavior. The current published model list spans Sony Alpha, ZV, RX, ILX, and Cinema Line bodies. See the support page for the full current model list. Cameras without Bluetooth remote control support are not compatible. FocusStepper is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Sony. SONY is a trademark of Sony Group Corporation.

Which camera and lens combinations have been tested so far?

So far, FocusStepper has only been tested with a limited number of camera and lens combinations. More combinations may be tested later when the opportunity is there, and a future version of the app may also include a way for users to submit confirmed working models.

Do I need to update my camera firmware?

Yes, that is recommended. If your camera supports Bluetooth remote control, keeping the firmware up to date is the best way to avoid connection or control issues.

Do I need an internet connection while shooting?

No. The core camera-control and focus-bracketing workflow runs locally between your iPhone and camera over Bluetooth. Internet is only relevant for things like the website or App Store subscription management.

Can I use FocusStepper without a subscription?

Yes. The free tier covers connection, focus checks, calibration, and capped bracket runs. Premium removes shot caps and unlocks saved setups, focus profiles, and session review.

How do subscriptions work?

FocusStepper offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions through the App Store. Apple handles billing, renewals, cancellations, and payment details. If you already subscribed and switch devices, you can use restore purchases inside the app.

Can I save my bracket settings?

Yes. Premium unlocks saved setups and focus profiles so you can reuse lens calibration values and bracket settings later instead of starting from scratch every time.

Is there a contact form?

No. If you need help, send an email to the support address on the support page instead.
